Carpet Cleaning Spots vs. Stains on your Carpets or Area Rugs in Castro Valley CA

Knowing the difference between spots vs. stains—and the proper cleaning methods—can significantly extend the life of your rugs and carpets.

Can you tell the difference between what represents a stain vs. a spot on your carpet? And if so, do you know the appropriate carpet cleaning process?

The first step in restoring your carpet is knowing the difference between carpet spots and stains.
So, what is the difference?

No carpet is entirely stain-proof—especially with today’s stain-resistant carpets. Identifying the difference between spots and stains is half the battle.

A spot usually results from a fresh accident that will come out relatively quickly if removed immediately. It has discolored only the outside of the carpet fibers.  A stain is more permanent, embedding itself into the carpet fibers and changing the color forever.

How does the cleaning process differ?
So, now that you know what you are dealing it, it is time to choose the proper cleaning method.

SPOTS:
For spots, the process is simple. With help from The Carpet and Rug Institute, check out some easy tips for removing spots.

  1. Act quickly!

  2. Blot, don’t scrub. It seems counter-intuitive, but vigorous scrubbing to remove stains can cause more harm than good, and doing so could cause stains to embed further into your carpet. Using a dry cloth or paper towel, gently blot the stain away.

  3. Plain water is best! Household carpet cleaning products may not be as helpful as you think, and sometimes the best method is plain ole water. There is no such thing as a permanent carpet cleaning solution, and often these “permanent solutions” cause carpets to re-soil due to an overabundance of alkaline.

STAINS:
The stain removal process can be more difficult.  First, you must identify the type of stain:
Solvent-soluble
Solvent-soluble stains include crayons, tar, oils, greases, lipstick, and butter. These stains can be cleaned with a solvent cleaner.
Water-soluble
Some water-soluble stains include alcoholic beverages, ice cream, colas, food dyes, gravy, coffee, chocolate, wine, mud, latex paint, and washable ink. Detergent-based cleaners should work well on those.
Non-soluble
Non-soluble stains are sand, grit, metal shavings, or anything with a sticky film. It would help if you vacuumed these types of stains first before using an appropriate cleaning solution.

You may need to consult a professional carpet cleaning company when all else fails. Contact a reputable, long-standing carpet cleaning company.

We at KMC Cleaners & Restoring Services hope this makes cleaning your carpets easier by knowing the difference between carpet spots and stains!

Fact: You'll waste less time and money in the long run if you hire professional carpet cleaners. If you rent a carpet cleaning machine, you may spend more time and money and get only marginal results.
Professional carpet cleaning is more expensive than renting, but you'll get the best results without investing your time.

While your carpeting may not require the regular cleaning that other types of flooring demand, your carpet should be professionally cleaned every year to 18 months, even if you vacuum regularly. Professional carpet cleaning extends the life of the carpeting and contributes to better air quality, reducing allergies and illness.

Do-It-Yourself Carpet-Cleaning Mistakes
Ideally, your carpet should be professionally cleaned. However, to save money, many people alternate between do-it-yourself cleaning and professional cleaning. While the do-it-yourself approaches are far less expensive, they are seldom as effective as professional cleaning and involve considerable time and hard work. Depending on the method used, it is easy for the novice to damage the carpet.
Beware of the three most common ways do-it-yourselfers (and inexperienced pros) damage carpets:

  • Over-shampooing

  • Over-wetting

  • Failing to protect the wet carpet from furniture

Over shampooing occurs when too much shampoo is used, or the carpet is not adequately rinsed. Both are practically inevitable with some wet do-it-yourself approaches, and this is the biggest reason why even hard-core do-it-yourselfers should occasionally use a professional. If they don't, the build-up of soapy residue can be impossible to clean out, leaving a carpet that is a virtual dirt magnet.
Over-wetting occurs when too much water soaks into the bottom of the carpet. Some backing materials cause the carpet to discolor if they get too wet. Some carpets will shrink, literally tearing themselves up from the floor. If the backing and pad get wet, it is challenging to dry them, and you run the additional risk of mold and mildew problems.
The final carpet-cleaning hazard is stains caused by furniture coming into contact with wet carpeting. Many kinds of wood furniture will release some of the dyes in their stain if left in contact with a wet surface. Many pieces of furniture have feet that are at least partially metal, and the metal can rust, leaving a stain on the carpet.

Professional Carpet Cleaning vs. Do It Yourself
There are a variety of professional systems for cleaning carpets, and each has advantages and disadvantages. Hiring a professional service is one way to ensure that the job is done well using the best equipment and cleaning solutions.

We're excited and grateful for the opportunity to provide you with information about carpet cleaning and help you choose a company.

"It seems that carpet cleaning is the subject of much confusion. People have so many misconceptions about carpet cleaning that we decided to offer this consumer education message so you can make an informed, intelligent decision when you select a carpet cleaning company.

"We'll share six costly misconceptions about carpet cleaning and give you seven questions you should ask a carpet cleaner before you invite him into your home.

"Misconception #1:  You should wait as long as possible before cleaning your carpet.

"No. Dirt is an abrasive – like sandpaper. You grind dirt into your carpet fibers every time you step on the carpet. This soil cuts your carpet, just as if you had used a knife, causing it to wear out faster. Vacuuming helps, but by itself, it's simply not enough. The longer you wait to have your carpet cleaned, the more damage you do to it.

"Misconception #2:  The only reason to clean carpets is to get out the dirt.

No. Outdoor air contains pollens, fungus, bacteria, air pollution, cigarette smoke, car exhaust -- and hundreds of other chemicals. When you and your family enter your home, those pollutants are carried in and usually end up on your carpet.

"If you have allergies, asthma, emphysema, or other breathing problems – one primary source of your problem could be the pollens, fungus, and chemicals in your carpet.

"Misconception #3:  One carpet cleaning method is as good as another.

"No. You can choose from many methods, most of which are bad. The best method to use is Hot Water Extraction.

Hot water extraction is done with a truck-mounted system that heats the water to a high temperature. It shoots the cleaning solution into the carpet at a higher pressure - - which breaks up the dirt, bacteria, and pollens. Then the machine uses high suction to draw the dirt out of the carpet.   The carpet will dry in approximately 2-3 hours, and it's the method we use exclusively.

"Misconception #4:  Having the right equipment is all a company needs to clean carpets properly.

"Not true. Many companies own hot-water cleaners - - but many employees don't know how to use them correctly, so you must choose your carpet cleaner carefully. We only use highly trained technicians and continually adopt any new technique and/or cleaner that works better than our current method.

"Misconception #5: The Company that offers the lowest price is the company you should hire.

"Maybe—but not always. Here are two critical points to consider.

"Point #1:  The offered price may not be for the service you want to be performed. If you want the carpet cleaner to remove only some dirt, you can choose from hundreds of companies that use small shampooers or other cleaning methods. On the other hand, if you want your carpet thoroughly cleaned, you need to use a company that offers hot water extraction.

"Point #2: The advertised price may not be the price you pay.

"Some carpet cleaners advertise room cleaning at $39.00 per room, then pressure you into paying a lot more once they get inside your home cleaning. This deceiving sales tactic is called "bait and switch," and these carpet cleaners are unethical.

"Misconception #6: Any honest carpet cleaning company should be able to give you an exact price quote over the telephone.

"No. I wish this were true, but it isn't.
Honest, reputable carpet cleaning companies seldom price carpet cleaning by the room. Instead, carpet cleaning is usually priced by square foot, and these companies offer free estimates.

When calling to set up a free onsite estimate, be sure to ask these seven questions and listen carefully to the answers:

  1. What method of carpet cleaning do you offer or recommend?
  2. What type of equipment and cleaning solutions do you use?
  3. How long have you been in business, and do you guarantee your work?
  4. Are your technicians Insured, licensed, certified, and bonded?
  5. Are you certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC)?
  6. What if you can't get out all the stains?
  7. Do you have any cleaning promotions?

"If you'd like to have your carpets thoroughly cleaned—removing all allergens, bacteria, and pollutants—then we invite you to schedule a FREE estimate. Our trained customer service staff would be happy to answer any additional questions regarding cleaning.

Top 10 Reasons to Have Carpets Professionally Cleaned
Cleanfax recently released a “top ten” list of reasons to have carpets professionally cleaned throughout the year.
YouTube Video - CLICK HERE
Question About Carpet Cleaning

Here is the list:
  1. Prolongs the life of carpeting. Regular carpet cleaning using the extraction method can increase the life of carpets significantly, protecting your floor covering investment.
  2. Protects indoor air quality. Carpets trap airborne pollutants; however, eventually, those pollutants must be removed in order to protect the carpet and maintain indoor air quality.
  3. Makes carpets easier to maintain. Most carpet soiling is made up of dry soils; when carpets are kept thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis, most dry soils can be removed with regular vacuuming.
  4. Removes spots and stains. As with other soils, spots and stains can attract more soiling. Removing them promptly protects carpeting from damage.
  5. Prevents the buildup of allergens and bacteria. Moist soiling of carpets can result in the buildup of several unhealthy contaminants.
  6. Enhances the appearance of any room. Clean, well-maintained carpets speak volumes about the overall cleanliness of a home or facility.
  7. Improves worker morale. Workers feel better about their work environment when it is clean. This includes carpeting.
  8. It makes carpeting look and feels clean and fresh.
  9. Removes dust mites and bedbugs that may have found a home in carpets.
  10. Maintains the carpet’s warranty. Most carpet warranties require that carpets be cleaned using the extraction method within a specific amount of time, usually every 12 to 18 months.
“Clean carpets simply make people feel good about themselves and where they live and work,” said Doug Berjer, CFR product manager and creator of the list.
Carpets add so much personality to a room, and keeping the carpet clean can also add value in the long run.
The Carpet and Rug Institute has always encouraged folks to maintain their carpets regularly at a high level by having a maintenance plan.
By following the tips on this list, your carpet will contribute to a clean and healthy environment indoors and add lasting beauty to your home or office.

Concern about indoor mold exposure has been increasing as the public becomes aware that mold exposure can cause various health effects and symptoms, including allergic reactions. This document presents guidelines for the remediation/cleanup of mold and moisture problems in schools and commercial buildings; these guidelines include measures designed to protect the health of building occupants and remediators. It has been designed primarily for:

  • Building managers
  • Custodians
  • Others who are responsible for commercial building and school maintenance
It should serve as a reference for potential mold and moisture remediators. Using this document, individuals with little or no experience with mold remediation should be able to judge reasonably whether the situation can be handled in-house. It will help those in charge of maintenance to evaluate an in-house remediation plan or a remediation plan submitted by an outside contractorContractors and professionals who respond to mold and moisture situations in commercial buildings and schools may also want to refer to these guidelines.

Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any organic substance, as long as moisture and oxygen are present. Some molds can grow on wood, paper, carpet, food, and insulation. When excessive moisture accumulates in buildings or building materials, mold growth will often occur, particularly if the moisture problem remains undiscovered or unaddressed. It is impossible to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment. However, mold growth can be controlled indoors by controlling moisture indoors.

Molds reproduce by making spores that usually cannot be seen without magnification. Mold spores waft through the indoor and outdoor air continually. When mold spores land on a damp spot indoors, they may begin growing and digesting whatever they are growing on to survive. Molds gradually destroy the things they grow on.
Many types of mold exist. All molds have the potential to cause health effects. Molds can produce allergens that can trigger allergic reactions or even asthma attacks in people allergic to mold. Others are known to produce potent toxins and irritants. Potential health concerns are an essential reason to prevent mold growth and to remediate/clean up any existing indoor mold growth.

Since mold requires water to grow, it is essential to prevent building moisture problems. Moisture problems can have many causes, including uncontrolled humidity. Some building moisture problems have been linked to changes in building construction practices during the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. Some of these changes have resulted in tightly sealed buildings that may lack adequate ventilation, potentially leading to moisture buildup. Building materials like drywall may not allow moisture to escape easily. Moisture problems may include:
  • Roof leaks
  • Landscaping or gutters that direct water into or under the building
  • Unvented combustion appliances
  • Delayed maintenance or insufficient maintenance are also associated with moisture problems in schools and large buildings

For more information - YouTube Video:
https://youtu.be/mi94uJ9fAFo

When mold growth occurs in buildings, some building occupants may report adverse health problems, particularly those with allergies or respiratory problems. Remediators should avoid exposing themselves and others to mold-laden dust during their cleanup activities. Caution should be used to prevent mold and mold spores from being dispersed throughout the air, where they can be inhaled by building occupants.

What to Do Before, During, and After a Flood
Even if you feel you live in a community with a low risk of flooding, remember that anywhere it rains, it can flood. Just because you haven't experienced a flood in the past doesn't mean you won't get in the future. Flood risk isn't just based on history; it's also based on several factors, including rainfall, topography, flood-control measures, river flow, tidal-surge data, and changes due to new construction and development.

Before a Flood
To prepare for a flood, you should:
  • Build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan.
  • Avoid building in a floodplain unless you elevate and reinforce your home.
  • Elevate the furnace, water heater, and electric panel in your home if you live in an area that has a high flood risk.
  • Consider installing "check valves" to prevent floodwater from backing up into the drains of your home.
  • If feasible, construct barriers to stop floodwater from entering the building and seal walls in basements with waterproofing compounds.
During a Flood
If a flood is likely in your area, you should:
  • Listen to the radio or television for information.
  • Be aware that flash flooding can occur. If there is any possibility of a flash flood, move immediately to higher ground. Do not wait for instructions to move.
  • Be aware of streams, drainage channels, canyons, and other areas known to flood suddenly. Flash floods can occur in these areas with or without specific warnings, such as rain clouds or heavy rain.
  • If you must prepare to evacuate, you should do the following:
  • Secure your home. If you have time, bring in outdoor furniture. Move essential items to an upper floor.
  • Turn off utilities at the main switches or valves if instructed to do so. Disconnect electrical appliances. Do not touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.
After a Flood
Your home has been flooded. Although floodwaters may be down in some areas, many dangers still exist. Here are some things to remember in the days ahead:
  • Avoid moving water.
  • Stay away from damaged areas unless your assistance has been specifically requested by police, fire, or relief organization.
  • Emergency workers will be assisting people in flooded areas. You can help them by staying off the roads and out of the way.
  • Play it safe. Additional flooding or flash floods can occur. Listen for local warnings and information. If your car stalls in rapidly rising waters, get out immediately and climb to higher ground.
  • Return home only when authorities indicate it is safe.
  • Roads may still be closed because they have been damaged or are covered by water. Barricades have been placed for your protection. If you come upon a barricade or a flooded road, go another way.
  • If you must walk or drive in areas that have been flooded.
  • Stay on firm ground. Moving water only 6 inches deep can sweep you off your feet. Standing water may be electrically charged from underground or downed power lines.
  • Flooding may have caused familiar places to change. Floodwaters often erode roads and walkways. Flood debris may hide animals and broken bottles, and it's also slippery. Avoid walking or driving through it.
  • Be aware of areas where floodwaters have receded. Roads may have weakened and could collapse under the weight of a car.
  • Stay out of any building if floodwaters surround it.
  • Use extreme caution when entering buildings; there may be hidden damage, particularly in foundations.
Staying Healthy
A flood can cause physical hazards and emotional stress. It would help if you looked after yourself and your family to focus on cleanup and repair.
  • Avoid floodwaters; water may be contaminated by oil, gasoline, or raw sewage.
  • Service damaged septic tanks, cesspools, pits, and leaching systems as soon as possible. Damaged sewer systems are serious health hazards.
  • Listen for news reports to learn whether the community's water supply is safe to drink.
  • Clean and disinfect everything that got wet. Mud left from floodwaters can contain sewage and chemicals.
  • Rest often and eat well.
  • Keep a manageable schedule. Make a list and do jobs one at a time.
  • Discuss your concerns with others and seek help. Contact Red Cross for information on emotional support available in your area.
Cleaning up & Repairing Your Home
  • Turn off the electricity at the main breaker or fuse box, even if the power is off in your community. That way, you can decide when your home is dry enough to turn it back on.
  • Get a copy of the book Repairing Your Flooded Home, which is available free from the American Red Cross or your state or local emergency manager. It will tell you:
  • How to enter your home safely.
  • How to protect your home and belongings from further damage.
  • How to record damage to support insurance claims and requests for assistance.
  • How to check for gas or water leaks and have service restored.
  • How to clean up appliances, furniture, floors, and other belongings.
  • The Red Cross can provide you with a cleanup kit: mop, broom, bucket, and cleaning supplies.
  • Contact your insurance agent to discuss claims.
  • Listen to your radio for information on assistance provided by the state or federal government or other organizations.
  • If you hire cleanup or repair contractors, check references and ensure they are qualified to do the job. Be wary of people who drive through neighborhoods offering help cleaning up or repairing your home.

1. ACCEPTANCE – Without Strings Attached
Being accepted for who you are is one of the most basic human needs there is… and often the most painfully neglected. In our competitive, success-orientated world, doing is often valued more than being. Students must be allowed to grow without being compared to others. They must know and feel that they are important, loved, and valued no matter what they look like, how they behave, or what they can achieve. Acceptance must come with no strings attached, just like the acceptance that is found in the love of Christ

2. CHALLENGE – To Dream Great Dreams
Dreams are a powerful thing. The history of our world is the story of men and women captivated by visions of new horizons, new frontiers, and new beginnings. Our nation owes its birth to many such dreamers. In this passive age of comforts and entertainment, children can be severely limited - even robbed  - of the time to just dream, look beyond the "already" and wonder at that "maybe." Dreams are the stuff from which goals are made goals that form entire lives – and nations.

3. CONFIDENCE – In an Uncertain World
Children are born with an incredible, insatiable desire to meet head-on and conquer it. But caution takes over when fears begin to grip the child's heart. Withdrawl replaces activity, and life ceases to be a marvel and instead becomes a fearful journey on an uncertain road.

Children need healthy doses of good old-fashioned faith and optimism, and they need to be encouraged to experience life with openness and anticipation. Knowing that God is in control and with us in every life situation is the one trustworthy source of confidence in our uncertain world.

4. DISCIPLINE – To Build Strong Character
A disciplined life doesn't really limit; it liberates the child to reach his potential. Like a river that overruns its banks, life without boundaries loses its strength.

And where there are no boundaries, a child loses his sense of security – knowing that there is someone who will help him avoid hazards and maintain control until he is mature enough to control himself. After all, the goal of all discipline is self-discipline, that beautiful quality of life based on the strength of character.

5. FREEDOM – To Be Kids
Childhood and youth are incredibly short, but meaningful spans of life, and they are years of intense growth in every area. And since our culture has one of the shortest periods of adolescence in the world, our children need every moment of childhood they can get.

Kids need the freedom to be kids. Hopefully, they can relate to adults who can see life through their eyes: The mazement of every discovery, the pride of accomplishment, and the fun of simple play. We need to give our children their childhood – and enjoy it with him.

6. STRENGTH – To Face Adversity
We want our children to be strong, to be able to endure hard things and surmount obstacles - and to stand alone if need be. But true strength is born of one thing; adversity. Only in facing problems squarely and working through them by God's grace can a child learn strength.

Every young child needs a certain amount of rights kind of struggles in their lives to exercise the muscles of independence and take flight, just like a butterfly that struggles to be free at the cocoon.

7. WISDOM - To Make Right Decisions
Life is a journey that is determined by a series of choices. And children begin making their own choices almost from the moment of self-awareness.

Children need the wisdom to make the right decisions. They need to hear wisdom from the adults in their lives and history lessons. But the most significant reservoir of wisdom the world has ever known is found in the Bible. To learn its wisdom is to provide them the light that will never fail them or lead them astray

With spring and summer weather comes all types of pests, from those emerging from hibernation to those who thrive in warm weather. And some of them end up where they don't belong: In your home.

The flea is one pest that tends to stick around when it invades your home. The world has some 2,000 types of fleas, and they are found virtually everywhere. And when you spot one, you might notice how fast they increase. They are said to have an acceleration rate some 50 times faster in warm weather, and they can jump more than a foot in the distance. These flea species are most common in the Bay Area.
Fleas live by consuming blood as their main meal. If you have a dog or cat, which is a flea's best friend and food source, and your pets go outside, odds are you will face a flea in your home from time to time. And even if you have no pets, they can attach to you when you venture outside and come back in.

Professional carpet cleaning is one of the quickest and most efficient ways to eradicate a flea infestation without using pesticides. KMC Cleaners & Restoring Services use hot water extraction "Steam Cleaning" with the "MOST POWERFUL" truck mount equipment in the carpet cleaning industry. Our cleaning unit with Salsa Heat Booster delivers the highest heat of 235-degree solution temperature and 400 psi hot water for the most thorough deep cleaning and sanitizing of your carpets and upholstery furniture to destroy the flea life cycle.

Why Do Fleas Infest Carpet?
Fleas are tiny, parasitic pests that typically feed on common domestic pets like dogs and cats. Fleas have only two goals during their lifespan: to feed and reproduce. They feed by sticking a small beak into the skin of their host and extracting blood; this is similar to how mosquitoes and bed bugs feed.
Fleas are not initially attracted to a house, and human blood is not their preferred blood; however, fleas will bite humans. Fleas typically make their way into a house via your pets. Once inside, fleas living on your pets may decide to branch out into the home, and carpets are considered perfect spots for the deposit of flea eggs.
Once flea eggs hatch inside the carpet, an endless flea life cycle will play out right inside your home, with you and your pets providing the food for an entire colony of fleas. You must remove fleas as soon as you notice a problem because the longer the infestation remains, the more difficult it will become to remove it.
Fleas do not seek out carpets when inside of a home. Instead, the fleas will typically spend all their time living on your pets' fur. Fleas lay upward of 4050 eggs per day, with the eggs hatching in as little as a few days. Once the eggs have hatched, adult fleas will prefer to hide the larvae that emerge from the eggs. Adult fleas are attracted to the tiny spaces between carpet and upholstery fibers, making a perfect gestating ground for flea larvae during the weeks-long development process.

Does Vacuuming Carpet Get Rid of Fleas?
You can use a vacuum to eliminate fleas on the carpet's surface, but vacuum cleaners do not kill the fleas; the vacuum removes some of the insects. To kill fleas on the carpet, you will need something more potent than the suction of a vacuum. Professional hot water/steam cleaning extraction is the best method to take.
There are many ways to kill fleas infestations, but you have to kill the entire colony to eradicate the problem.

Can Fleas Survive in Carpet?
If not properly treated, these insects can survive on the carpet in a continuous cycle that can span many flea generations.

Where Do Fleas Hide in Your Home?
Fortunately, fleas leave behind a trail of evidence in their wake. From bites to flea dirt, there are many signs to look out for around your home:

Complimentary insurance review
Would you rather know what is covered or not on your insurance policies Before or After you have a large incident?
If you were involved in a bad accident (car, boat, home, work, etc).....do you know what your insurance covers (or dos not cover) and would you rather know these things before an accident or after?

I'm happy to review your current insurance policies and answer any questions, no matter who you're currently insured with.  People often don't realize it's often just a few bucks a month difference to add a $1mil liability umbrella, they may be missing out on key discounts, and they may be missing some simple important coverages or paying for something they don't need.

Let me know any time you have any questions around insurance, and I'd be happy to look at your policy declarations pages any time as well!

By the way, I also do free notary for chamber members as well (other than mortgage ;)

Understanding Smoke Damage & Odor Removal from Different Fire Types.
YouTube Video - CLICK HERE

It's not as simple as just repainting or cleaning out-burned items. Smoke damage poses multiple health risks that require an experienced professional restoring company with certifications in fire damage restoration

Most Common Types of Smoke Damage:
1. Dry Smoke.
Dry smoke caused by high-temperature fires can spread quickly throughout properties, and they often result from paper or wood, which is why they're so often associated with home fires. The residue left behind on smoke-damaged items is powdery instead of sticky, making it comparatively easier to clean up.

2. Fuel/Oil Smoke Damage
Also called petroleum residue, it is less common in home and business fires unless petroleum products are present. However, heating appliances like oil-fired furnaces can malfunction. If it doesn't ignite properly, smoke and soot can be distributed throughout the property and surrounding space in the form of a small leak or minor explosion.
Petroleum residue is sticky, dense, and especially difficult to clean. Its pungent odor is offensive and quickly ruins upholstered furniture when not cleaned promptly.

3. Protein Smoke Damage
Protein residue is created when organic material evaporates during a low-heat fire. This smoke is typical when a cooking mishap causes a blaze in the kitchen. This type of smoke damage is essentially invisible with no noticeable soot or streaking, but it can permanently discolor painted, varnished, or other finished surfaces

4. Wet Smoke Damage
Wet smoke damage comes from low-heat, smoldering fires, and both plastic and rubber produce this waste when they are burned. These incredibly smelly blazes usually have fewer flames but thick, black smoke than their dry counterparts.

Because wet smoke residue is sticky and dense, it has no problem completely covering your home or business's surfaces and often smears during the cleaning process. This smoke is difficult to remove without special equipment.

Smoke Cleaning & Remediation - Anything touched by fire or smoke should be cleaned or disposed of to remove fire-related compounds.

What Do Furniture Cleaning Codes Mean?
KMC Cleaners & Restoring Services in Castro Valley CA

For many years furniture manufacturers have used color fastness codes to assist consumers in determining safe cleaning solutions (dry solvent, water) to use on their upholstered furniture overtime these “colorfastness codes” involve “cleaning codes” for determining the appropriate cleaning method for individual furniture based on their fiber content, fabric construction, and careful inspection, rather than colorfastness or cleaning codes.

Before cleaning begins, it’s essential to identify the upholstery material. There are four cleaning codes found on the tags of upholstery fabric:

W, S, SW, and X. (ASTM Labeling System)
NOTE: These codes DO NOT pertain to the Cushion Inserts or Inner Stuffing.

· Wet (W) — Dyes are stable to water-based spotters/cleaners
· Solvent (S) — Dyes are stable to dry solvent-based spotters/cleaners
· Solvent/wet (SW) — Dyes are stable to either water or dry solvent-based spotters/cleaners
· No cleaning (X) — Dyes are not stable to either water or dry solvent-based spotters/cleaners
· No code — Take caution when cleaning unmarked furniture
Your sofa and chair cushions have a zipper in them, just like your favorite pair of slacks; however, this does not mean you can take the fabric cushion cover off and put it into the washing machine or take it to your corner dry cleaners for cleaning. Often, this is not successful, and fabric will shrink, shred, and rarely result in a restored professional appearance.
Then, the question is, why include a zipper at all?
The zipper in the cover allows the furniture factory assembly team to inset the cushion cores in a more efficient manner.

At KMC Cleaners & Restoring Services, our IICRC-certified technicians will provide an onsite evaluation for free to correctly identify the best cleaning procedures to successfully restore your upholstered furniture and adequately extend the life expectancy of the fabric.

Although most upholstery is cleaned on location in our customers' homes or businesses, some fabrics may require cleaning processes that are best performed under controlled conditions. Usually, these conditions can be achieved only in our cleaning plant facility.

Maintenance Cleaning: helps keep the furnishing in a more attractive and healthy state while preventing premature wear.

Routine Cleaning: this is the process of thoroughly cleaning using one or more cleaning methods. It should be performed periodically, approximately every 12 to 24 months, depending on the furniture location use and exposure to soiling. Regular cleaning should be accomplished before soiling causes permanent damage to fiber dyes or fabric texture.

Restorative Cleaning: restorative or salvage cleaning is required when soiling has become severe. (Stains, water damage, smoke, odors) Restorative cleaning is not a normal cleaning process and is typically performed by KMC specialists.
