About Us

The mission of Eden Health District is to improve the health of the community we serve by providing access to direct and indirect care services and health education.

Eden Health District was established in 1948 to build and operate Eden Hospital, a community hospital to serve residents of Castro Valley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Hayward, Ashland/Cherryland, and Fairview communities. The District operated Eden Hospital until 1998, when Eden Medical Center became an affiliate of Sutter Health. Since 1998 the District no longer has any affiliation with Eden Medical Center (Eden Hospital).

One focus of the District is to oversee the Community Health Fund. Through responsible investments, the fund has grown each year, enabling local organizations to provide much-needed health care services to those in need. Members of the Board carefully evaluate every grant application and make their grant selections in open session during a regularly scheduled Board meeting.
