The mission of the Eden Township Healthcare District is to improve the health of the people in our community by investing resources in health and wellness programs that meet identified goals.
The Eden Township Healthcare District was established in 1948 to build and operate Eden Hospital, a community hospital to serve residents of Castro Valley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Hayward and nearby communities. The District operated Eden until 1998, when Eden Medical Center became an affiliate of Sutter Health.
One focus of the District is to oversee the endowment fund known as the Community Health Fund. Through responsible investments, the fund has grown each year, enabling local organizations to provide much-needed health care services to those in need. Members of the Board carefully evaluate every application and make their grant selections in open session during a regularly scheduled Board meeting.
